Kashkadarya’s Karshi to double in size: New master plan approved

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The city of Karshi is set to significantly expand its territory. The government of Uzbekistan has approved a new master plan that will nearly double the city’s area.

In the coming years, the administrative center of the Kashkadarya region will grow by 7,767 hectares through land from the Kasan, Karshi, and Kukdalinsky districts. The phased expansion of the city’s territory is planned until 2042.

Currently, Karshi covers an area of 8,308.9 hectares. By 2030, this will increase to 11,026.8 hectares, and by 2042, it will reach 16,073.6 hectares. The city’s population will rise from 300,000 to 470,000 people, and the housing stock will grow from 3.9 million to 10.81 million square meters. As a result, the per capita housing availability will increase from 14.1 to 23 square meters.

High-rise construction will be actively developed in Karshi: the number of low-rise buildings will decrease, and new 9- and 20-story buildings will replace them. Additional kindergartens, schools, and medical and social facilities will also be built.

The length of main streets will increase from 88 km to 291.33 km, and passenger traffic will rise from 96 million to 235 million people annually. Special attention will be given to the development of engineering and technical infrastructure, including water, gas, and electricity supply, heating, and sewage systems.

The administration of Kashkadarya region must develop and approve a comprehensive program of measures for implementing the master plan within three months.
