José Venancio López steps down as head coach of Uzbekistan’s futsal national team

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Spanish specialist José Venancio López has resigned from his position as the head coach of Uzbekistan’s futsal national team following the team’s disappointing performance at the home World Futsal Championship.

The Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA) held a meeting to analyze the team’s performance in the tournament, which took place in Tashkent, Andijan, and Bukhara from 14 September to 6 October 2024. Uzbekistan finished last in Group A, earning only one point.

During the meeting, participants reviewed the shortcomings in the team’s play and discussed ways to address them. Measures were proposed to eliminate the identified issues, including the creation of futsal teams in various age categories to develop future candidates for the main squad, as well as increasing the number of tournaments among clubs.

It was noted that providing young talented futsal players with more match experience and involving them in competitions could lead to better results.

José Venancio López thanked the UFA leadership for the opportunity to work as the national team’s head coach. He acknowledged that the UFA had provided all the necessary conditions during the championship and expressed his satisfaction with his time in Uzbekistan, adding that he had received full support from all specialists. The Spaniard also stated his readiness to maintain friendly relations and assist in the future.

UFA First Vice President Ravshan Irmatov thanked López for his work with the team and wished him success in his future endeavors.

The UFA confirmed that López’s contract has ended.
