Jizzakh Region: New plant to address waste management issues

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 7 to 11 October, a delegation from the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, led by Deputy Minister Iskandar Kutbiddinov, visited Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea.

The purpose of the visit was to establish promising avenues for cooperation in the field of waste processing. During the visit, negotiations were held with several Korean companies, including representatives of the Export-Import Bank of Korea, aimed at exploring opportunities for joint work in waste management.

The delegation reviewed the operations of companies involved in waste processing using "green" energy. Specifically, they studied the experience of generating electricity by incinerating waste and examined technological solutions for landfill reclamation.

Special attention was given to strengthening cooperation with the Korea Environment Corporation (K-eco), which operates under the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea.

During the meeting with K-eco Chairman B. An, both sides agreed to further develop mutually beneficial cooperation and exchange expertise in environmental safety.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was signed to provide a grant of **$6.2 million** for the construction of a waste processing plant in the Jizzakh region. The agreement is set for a four-year period.

The project includes the following activities:

- Reclamation of the landfill, including the collection of **300,000 cubic meters** of waste.

- Covering the landfill with soil.

- Collection and pyrolysis-based incineration of landfill gas.

- Installation of equipment for electricity generation (generator).

This project will enhance the efficiency of waste processing in Uzbekistan, make a significant contribution to improving the environmental situation in the Jizzakh region, and promote the implementation of advanced technologies in waste management.
