Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga announced a firm intention to host the Olympic Games in the summer of 2021 in Tokyo, Reuters reported.
“I want to assure you that the Olympics will take place next year,” the prime minister said in an interview with Kyodo News, Japan’s largest news agency.
Earlier it became known that Yoshihide Suga held telephone conversations with the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach. They discussed preparations for the Olympics.
The Tokyo Games were scheduled to run from 24 July to 9 August 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, they were postponed for a year and will take place from 23 July to 8 August 2021. At the same time, the name of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will be retained.
