Japan helps Tajikistan to improve medical services
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Japan allocated US$1.5 million to finance new project on improving activity of 16 medical establishments in Tajikistan, located along Afghan border.

The project is designed for a year. World Health Organization (WHO) and French NGO Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development are implementing the project, the UN News Center said.

WHO Representatives in Tajikistan Santino Severoni said natural disasters, including flood in southern Tajikistan, as well ass conflict in neighbouring Afghanistan threatens to health of thousand people and many people cannot receive treatment due to overload of hospitals.

He said the project is aimed at equipping and preparing medical establishments to rendering medical aid in crisis situations. The selected hospitals located near 1,200-km border with Afghanistan and in the result of the project, about 1.2 million people will receive better medical services, many of them are Afghan refugees.
