IT Park jointly with USAID launches Tumaris Tech project

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- IT Park, together with USAID, is launching the Tumaris Tech project, aimed at supporting women’s entrepreneurship in the country, within which women will receive support in the development of their start-up projects. Namely, projects will go through incubation and acceleration programs and acquire skills for further development.

The project aims to strengthen the involvement of women in the ICT ecosystem: from the development of BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) by providing education for women who want to work as freelancers to the development of startups and investment training.

This is extremely necessary for Uzbekistan, because at the moment there is a rather serious problem of gender inequality, which, among other things, manifests itself in the existence of a very narrow layer of women working in IT in all areas.

The project has several key components, one of which is the following:

Support for women’s startups. In this case, a “female startup” is defined as a startup where at least half of the founders are women and at least 60% of the team are women. This component is aimed at women who are already ripe for starting their own business and are in the idea / pre-seed stage. Within this component, projects will go through incubation and acceleration.

It is also supposed to use the institute of tracking / mentoring. For every two projects, one tracker / mentor will be identified who will lead and support the team, give the necessary advice, comments, etc.

And most importantly, the most successful ideas can receive funding, and some of the participants will be able to undergo training in order to invest in the future on their own, thereby launching a sustainable mechanism for the development of women’s entrepreneurship and startup ecosystem in Uzbekistan.

In addition, it is planned to attract additional partners for non-material support - from the OSCE to the Women’s Committee.
