Issues of providing IMF support to the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO were considered

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 April, the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov met with the head of the International Monetary Fund delegation Yasser Abdih.

The parties discussed the economic reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan aimed at liberalizing the market, improving conditions for trade and attracting foreign investment, and Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization.

The IMF delegation noted the country’s successes in sustainable economic growth and increasing the volume of foreign investment attracted to key sectors of the economy. In turn, the Uzbek side provided explanations on the current framework for implementing state investment policy in the country, including the created comfortable conditions for doing business, protecting the rights of investors and other important aspects.

Issues of providing IMF support to the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO were considered in a constructive manner, including within the framework of intensifying and successfully conducting negotiations with members of the organization.

Representatives of the IMF expressed their readiness to provide the necessary assistance in improving the institutional framework for regulating trade and developing the investment climate, to ensure the effective implementation of reforms and achieve the strategic development goals of Uzbekistan.
