Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 24 December, a meeting of the Republican Council for the Development of Cycling, headed by the Chairperson of the Cycling Federation of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva, was held via videoconference.
It was attended by members of the Republican Council for the Development of Cycling, representatives of ministries and departments, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, khokimiyats of regions and the city of Tashkent.
The meeting first considered the implementation of the President's decree "On Comprehensive Measures for the Development of Cycling" from 24 September 2021, increasing the mass of cycling among the population, ensuring the participation of the National Team in the Asian and Paralympic Games, Asian Championships and other major competitions.
It was noted that some work has been done in this area over the past four years. In particular, the National Cycling Team won 98 medals at international competitions, in 2019 it took 2nd place in the team event at the Asian Championship, held in the Tashkent region, in which representatives of more than 40 countries took part.
In addition, for the development of various types of cycling in the regions, creating the necessary conditions for the population to engage in cycling in districts (cities), bicycle paths with a length of 837 km and "health corridors" with a length of 930 km have been built.
With the involvement of business entities in each district (city) center, bicycle rental points and shops selling them, workshops and bicycle maintenance points are being created.
At the meeting, the participants noted that there are a number of tasks to create the necessary conditions for cycling, to strengthen the financial and material and technical base of the regional branches of the Federation and at sports facilities.
The importance of accelerating the organization of cycling departments in the Bukhara, Karshi, Navoi and Termez colleges of the Olympic reserve, as well as in children's and youth sports schools of all regions, specialized in sports and athletics, of road cycling, and in children's and youth sports schools - cycling departments was noted.
The need to pay special attention to the issues of complete equipping of bicycle paths with modern energy-efficient lighting systems and reflectors, road signs, construction of bicycle paths and bicycle parking facilities for social and tourist infrastructure, creation of a "free environment" for persons with disabilities, and educational institutions, enterprises and organizations - the construction of bicycle parking was underlined.
The state of implementation of plans for the construction of various sports complexes in Samarkand, Tashkent regions and the city of Tashkent, specializing in various sports, was also considered.
Within the framework of the meeting, measures were identified for the development of cycling in the regions, plans for the future, including the tasks of attracting young people to these sports, their identification, selection and training as professional athletes.
