Issues of environmental protection discussed
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- About 30 laws and over 350 legal documents on the management of natural resources and environmental protection were adopted in the years of independence in Uzbekistan. The measures to reduce the negative impact of waste to the environment and public health were considered in the law on waste dated 5 April 2002.

The round table, organized by the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis on ecology and environmental protection together with the parliamentary group of the Environmental Movement, addressed the preparation of the bill “On Making Amendments and Addenda to the Law” On Waste.” The event was attended by deputies, representatives of relevant ministries, agencies, organizations, leading enterprises in the country.

During the workshop, it was noted that the problems of waste management were priority areas of environmental protection. Adopted laws and regulations put forward specific requirements for the protection of the environment that allows limiting the negative impact of the economic activity on the environment and human health.

Nevertheless, some legal provisions on waste management need improvement. Proceeding from this, leading experts considered the practice of foreign countries to introduce non-waste technologies and recycling.

In addition, measures to create favorable conditions for business activities on recycling and reuse of waste production and consumption were considered during the event.

Following the meeting of the round table the proposals will be incorporated in the draft of the bill on Amendments and Supplements to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “on Waste.”
