Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov met with UNESCO Representative in Uzbekistan Sara Noshadi. At the beginning of the meeting, Sara Noshadi congratulated Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov on receiving the international award of UNESCO - Equatorial Guinea for research in the field of natural sciences.

Sara Noshadi briefed the Minister on UNESCO’s work in the field of higher education and activities to support the ratification process under the Asia-Pacific Regional Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications in Higher Education and the Tokyo Convention.

Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov expressed interest in promoting and improving STEM education in 64 lyceums. The latter serve as the center of creativity and innovation in the regions and are equipped with modern technologies such as 3D printers, smart buses, etc. The minister mentioned the great experience of UNESCO in this area and suggested developing joint projects in this direction.

During the discussion of the issue of ensuring the quality of education in private universities, the Uzbek side expressed interest in the expertise and recommendations of UNESCO to improve the quality of education in non-state universities.

The parties also discussed the upcoming visit of the delegation of the International Center for Innovation in Higher Education under the auspices of UNESCO to Uzbekistan from 28 May to 6 June  this year.
