Issues of combating human trafficking and forced labor were discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 November, in the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, representatives of the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Persons and Forced Labor met with the delegation of Estonia, which was in our country to study the experience of Uzbekistan in this direction, led by an adviser on issues Criminal Policy of the Ministry of Justice, National Coordinator for Combating Trafficking in Persons A. Leps.

During the constructive dialogue, the Estonian side was provided with information about the comprehensive measures taken to combat human trafficking, eradicate child and forced labor, and the practical implementation of recommendations of international organizations.

The representative of the Ministry of Justice of Estonia emphasized the enormous and effective work carried out by Uzbekistan to eradicate child and forced labor. It was noted that Uzbekistan’s experience in combating human trafficking, which gives good results, is relevant for European countries, including the Baltic Sea countries.

At the same time, UNODC Regional Adviser R. Sirgediene, who took part in the meeting, highly appreciated the activities of the National Commission to Combat Trafficking in Persons and Forced Labor under the leadership of the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis T. Narbayeva. It was especially emphasized that the UN fully supports the efforts of Uzbekistan aimed at developing labor relations, combating human trafficking and promoting the principles of decent work.

At the end of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement to strengthen bilateral cooperation by organizing joint round tables and exchanging views on current issues in the fight against human trafficking.
