Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 June 2021, the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Women and Gender Equality, together with the Central Bank, held a round table on the topic "Topical issues of increasing the efficiency of activities in the banking system of advisory councils on ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men”.
It was attended by members of the Senate, employees of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan and territorial head offices of the Central Bank, commercial banks, members of the expert group of the Committee and media workers.
During the "round table" the issues of increasing the efficiency of activity in the banking system of advisory councils on the issues of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men were discussed.
It was noted that the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men" provides for the creation of advisory councils in labor collectives.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan also created an Advisory Council on the issues of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men, which includes 7 members and one secretary of the Council. Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank was appointed as the Chairman of the Council. The necessary conditions have been created to improve the efficiency of the advisory council.
Today, the banking system employs over 40 thousand managers and specialists, of whom 31% are women.
It was noted at the meeting that at present, the Central Bank, in carrying out its activities, pays great attention to increasing gender inclusiveness. In particular, in March this year, the implementation of the Action Plan on Gender Equality was launched. At the same time, together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, an Action Plan for increasing gender inclusiveness in the financial system and entrepreneurship in 2021-2023 was developed and put into practice.
At the same time, measures are being taken to promote the development of a network of women's entrepreneurship, the implementation of short-term programs on business and financial education for women starting their own businesses, and to ensure gender diversity in the activities of the Central Bank.
In particular, only in June 2021, the Central Bank, together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, organized a number of seminars for representatives of the banking sector of Uzbekistan on the topic "Gender-sensitive financing and promotion of gender diversity in the financial sector."
The participants of the event made suggestions regarding the further activities of the Advisory Council and the measures that need to be implemented.
In this regard, the commercial banks of the republic were also given recommendations on the establishment of an advisory council on the issues of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men.
