During the meeting, the two sides studied possible ways to enhance Tehran’s cooperation with Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

Mottaki and Rahmon also discussed the two countries’ joint ventures as well as Iran’s underway projects in Tajikistan, including Sangtudeh, Anzab and Chahar-Maghzak tunnel projects.

Regional and quadrilateral cooperation as well as Iran’s cooperation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and Iran’s membership in the organization set another part of the agenda of the meeting.

The two sides also followed up to the agreements held in earlier meetings between Iranian and Tajik presidents.

Mottaki arrived in Ashkhabad early Monday on a day-long visit to attend the inaugural ceremony of the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia.

The center aims to assist regional governments in working together to tackle common challenges such as terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime and environmental degradation.
