Iran wins Asian junior water polo title
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Iran has emerged as the winner of the Asian Junior Water Polo Championships held at Tehran’s Azadi Swimming Pool complex.

Iran came first overall with seven points after it defeated Kazakhstan 15-8 in the third match held Monday and despite being held to a 4-4 draw against Uzbekistan in its final match of the event on Tuesday.

The win over Kazakhstan qualified the Iranian outfit for the 15th FINA World Junior Men’s Water Polo Championships scheduled to be held in Croatia in August this year.

Uzbekistan claimed second place also with seven points, beaten by Iran on goal differences. Uzbekistan too has qualified for the world championships, while Kazakhstan came third on four points.

In other rankings, Kuwait achieved fourth place with two points and Saudi Arabia was at the bottom of the chart without a win.

The FINA Junior World Championships features the top water polo teams from 24 nations. Hungary is the reigning champion while Iran attained 19th place in the previous championship games in 2007.
