IPMI experts assessed the development of regions in terms of industrial production

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- IPMI experts assessed the development of regions in terms of industrial production. The study used comparative analysis and grouping methods to identify the country’s territorial disparities at the grassroots level.

According to the results of the study, the regions of the country are grouped into 4 groups according to the level of industrial production:

the I-group - relatively industrialized territories (production per capita above the republican level - 12.9 million soums in 2021) - included 16 districts, distinguished by the location of basic large facilities on their territory (mainly fuel and energy, chemical complex, mechanical engineering, metallurgy).

Group II - territories with an average level of industry (production below the republican parameter by no more than 5 times) - includes 101 districts or 62.3% of their total number. They are characterized by industrial specialization mainly in the production of consumer goods (light, food industries, building materials industry), developed or developing small businesses, and their main concentration falls on the Republic of Karakalpakstan (11 units), Andijan (11 units), Bukhara (9 units), Navoi (7 units), Namangan (8 units), Tashkent (10 units) regions.

Group III - territories with a relatively low level of industry (production below the republican parameter by no more than 10 times) - included 37 districts. Such districts are concentrated in the resource-provided Kashkadarya (5 units), Samarkand (5 units), Surkhandarya (5 units), Ferghana (4 units) regions and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (4 units), which requires the development of measures to maximize their involvement into the production process.

Group IV (production below the republican parameter by more than 10 times) included 8 districts (Bakhmal, Yangikurgan, Koshrabat, Altynsay, Denov, Baysun, Sokh) remote from the center or located in the foothill zone. The industry of these territories is formed mainly due to the local production of goods of social significance, and for its further development, it is necessary to intensify entrepreneurial and investment activities, as well as create a favorable engineering and communication infrastructure.

In general, in the period 2018-2021. there is an increase in the number of districts with an average (from 83 units to 101 units) and a reduction in districts with a low (from 46 units to 37 units) and unsatisfactory (from 14 units to 8 units) level of industry, which is a consequence of effective use of local potential and resources, activation of entrepreneurial and investment activity in rural areas.

Thus, the identification of the level of industry in the regions makes it possible to develop targeted measures for the accelerated industrial development of the territories. For example, in the I-group of districts, there are opportunities to create territorial-industrial clusters, in the II-group - the activation of drivers of economic growth, in the III and IV groups - the organization of inter-territorial projects involving the potential of developed and medium-developed territories.
