Intl conference discusses democratization of society in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An international scientific-practical conference titled "Important legal issues of democratization of society and human rights protection - experience of Uzbekistan" was held on 25-26 November in the framework of events dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of the Human Rights, Justice Ministry said in a press-release.

The conference was organized by the Center for Monitoring the Implementation of the Normative-Legal Acts under the Justice Ministry, the National Center for Human Rights, the Institute for the Civil Society Studies, as well as the UNDP Office and the OSCE Projects Coordinator in Uzbekistan.

The event was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of the Human Rights, which outlines the main human rights. Being universal, it was used as a basis for the modern international law and constitutions of many countries of the world, the release said.

The Universal Declaration of the Human Rights became the first international legal document that Uzbekistan joined after proclaiming state independence. Consequently, the clauses of the document have found their reflection in the norms of the Constitution and the human rights laws. During the years of independence, Uzbekistan joined almost 70 human rights documents and became the participant of the six founding international treaties of the UN in this sphere.

Together with leading legal specialists of Uzbekistan, experts from the Great Britain, Germany, China, Japan, Russia, Kazakhstan, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations accredited in Uzbekistan took part in the conference. The participation of the leading specialists from foreign states in the conference on the experience of Uzbekistan in democratization of the society and human rights protection is a vivid example of the growing attention of the world community to the national model of building the democratic legal state.

The release said the foreign speakers at the forum highly evaluated the consistent and systemic measures implemented in Uzbekistan in the field of democratization and human rights protection. In their opinion, the experience of Uzbekistan in these spheres is of a huge interest and complies with modern international requirements. The foreign experts particularly noted the achievements in democratization of the judicial and legal sphere, liberalization of the criminal and procedural criminal legislation, and formation of the truly independent and just court.

The conference participants also considered the issues of implementation of the norms of international law in the national legislation, important aspects of introduction of the results of scientific research in the legislative and law-enforcement activities, the efficiency of the legislation monitoring system and the foreign experience in these areas.

The international scientific-practical conference was held in a constructive atmosphere. The participants expressed the common opinion that such events would help to further strengthen mutual understanding, explain the peculiarities and the essence of the national model of democratization of society and human rights protection, which is based on the leading ideas of the world civilization.
