International Youth Environmental Camp launches in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 23 June, the International Environmental Camp commenced its activities in Samarkand.

This year, eco-activists from all Central Asian countries—Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan—joined participants from Azerbaijan, Hungary, and Türkiye.

The event was organized by the International Public Foundation Zamin, the Ministry of Ecology, Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, the Youth Affairs Agency, UNICEF, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The main objective of the camp is to emphasize the importance of youth participation in combating climate change, provide a platform for young eco-activists to propose initiatives, and promote the integration of youth environmental movements in these regions.

The camp’s program includes seminars and discussions with international experts on climate change agendas, as well as the development and discussion of projects that countries intend to present at COP-29, involving young eco-leaders.

In Samarkand, at the Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, participants will work in groups, participate in workshops, and discuss environmental projects. In Tashkent, they will visit eco-schools and the Green University, attending lectures by leading experts in ecology.

As part of the cultural program, participants visited historical landmarks in Samarkand, including the Gur-Emir Mausoleum, the Shah-i-Zinda Complex, and Ulugh Beg Observatory.

The event will continue until June 30th.
