International Network on Multidimensional Poverty (MPPN) convenes for global dialogue in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — World leaders will gather at the annual high-level meeting of the Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN), with Uzbekistan hosting discussions on key issues related to poverty reduction. This event will bring together leading experts and country leaders from around the globe.

The MPPN will hold its 9th meeting on 27-28 August in Tashkent and in Samarkand on 29 August, drawing participants from 63 countries and over 30 international organizations. The event is organized by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) with the support of UNDP and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI).

The discussions will focus on sharing experiences and results to improve global poverty reduction strategies. Uzbekistan’s selection as the host country highlights the international recognition of the reforms being carried out in the country and opens new opportunities for knowledge exchange. The country has shown its commitment to poverty reduction by officially recognizing the concept of multidimensional poverty as a means to accelerate progress in poverty elimination in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

For the first time in the country, a project to measure the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) has been initiated, implemented jointly by CERR, UNDP, OPHI, UNICEF, and the UNICEF Innocenti Research Center. The methodology for measuring multidimensional poverty is currently being integrated with the household budget survey conducted by the Agency of Statistics to calculate multidimensional and monetary indicators.

Uzbekistan’s initiatives confirm its commitment to international standards in the fight against poverty and sustainable development. Reducing multidimensional poverty requires joint efforts and collaboration to achieve the SDGs.
