Intensifying cooperation between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan serves the interests of the peoples

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21 November, Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan Shadurdi Meredov.

During the meeting, a wide range of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan was discussed, including the current state and prospects of trade, economic, social, cultural, humanitarian and inter-parliamentary relations.

Considering the importance of the role of parliamentary diplomacy in interstate relations, the main attention is paid to the issues of further development of interparliamentary cooperation. In particular, an exchange of views took place on facilitating the implementation of agreements reached between the two countries at all levels within the framework of parliamentary control, the exchange of experience between committees in the field of lawmaking, and the establishment of dialogue among young parliamentarians.

As you know, economic cooperation plays an important role in relations between the two countries, and in 2022 the volume of mutual trade amounted to about one billion dollars. Despite this, it is emphasized that both sides have sufficient capabilities and potential to increase the indicator in this regard. To do this, it is necessary to effectively use the activities of the Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, as well as develop interregional cooperation.

As part of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, Culture Days are organized in both countries. It was noted at the meeting that it is advisable to launch projects that provide an opportunity for cultural and spiritual rapprochement between the two peoples and serve to bring interstate humanitarian relations to a new level.

Emphasis was also placed on active cooperation on issues of gender equality and the development of tourism destinations between countries.
