Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- High-performance processors and graphics processors from Intel, AMD, NVIDIA will increase in price in 2022. Companies plan to increase the cost of their products up to 20%. The price increase offsets current variables and external factors that have impacted the current chip manufacturing process.

The latest DigiTimes report says that due to a number of external factors, such as high shipping costs and photolithography under new technology norms, the big three, including AMD, Intel and NVIDIA, are planning to increase prices. We are talking about the prices of GPUs and CPUs.

The report states that TSMC has already increased pricing for its existing 7nm and 5nm process lines. They will be used to produce several next generation GPUs and CPUs such as AMD Ryzen 7000, AMD Ryzen 6000H/U, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4000, Intel ARC Alchemist GPUs. While Intel will rely on TSMC’s 6nm process, which is a continuation of the N7 technology node, the price increase will be similar.

AMD will increase its prices for all 7nm and 5nm chips manufactured by TSMC as TSMC increased prices for mature and advanced technology nodes by 10-20% starting this year.

NVIDIA has also reportedly paid TSMC upfront payments for long-term orders for the 5nm RTX 4000 series of GPUs starting this year and may pass on some of the high manufacturing costs to customers.

The price increase offsets current variables and external factors that have impacted the current chip manufacturing process. And while there is a possibility that some of the product lines will improve by the end of 2022, there is no confirmation that prices will improve.

NVIDIA will spend several billion dollars to buy TSMC’s 5nm plates, but that also means consumers will have to pay more to get their hands on these state-of-the-art chips. AMD has already increased the price of its Zen 3 products based on TSMC’s 7nm process, and their Ryzen 7000 based on TSMC’s 5nm process could be even more expensive.

Intel ARC GPUs and AMD’s updated RDNA 2 GPUs are the only consumer products that use TSMC’s 6nm process, so they might have a better deal, but pricing is a big question.

Based on the retail prices of the Radeon RX 6500 XT graphics card, it looks like all of these chip supply issues are heavily impacting 6nm, despite AMD promising to improve the offering and pricing of the upcoming card.
