Indian Embassy in Tashkent showcases tourism and investment opportunities in Uttarakhand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 17 March 2025, the Embassy of India in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) hosted an event highlighting tourism, trade, and investment opportunities in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.

The event was attended by over 100 participants, including media representatives, professionals from the tourism sector, and members of the Indian business diaspora.

The program began with a video message from the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Mr. Pushkar Singh Dhami. In his address, he invited Uzbek businesses and tourists to explore the vast potential of the state and establish collaborations in key sectors such as tourism, healthcare and wellness, pharmaceuticals, handicrafts, and education. He also emphasized the ongoing cooperation between the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and Samarkand State University (SamSU).

India’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Ms. Smita Pant, spoke about the extensive opportunities for tourism and investment in Uttarakhand, highlighting the prospects for collaboration between India and Uzbekistan in education, research and development, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture. The event featured video presentations showcasing the state's investment potential and tourism attractions, along with a dedicated presentation on Uttarakhand’s investment and tourism policies delivered by Colonel Vikram Raina, the Defense Attaché.

The program also included cultural performances by students from the Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture, who showcased the unique folk traditions of Uttarakhand. High-ranking government officials, business leaders, and representatives of Uzbekistan’s business community participated in the event, expressing keen interest in exploring partnership and investment opportunities in Uttarakhand.

This event marked a significant step in strengthening economic and cultural ties between India and Uzbekistan.
