Uzbekistan 12/12/2007 Incumbent Uzbek President visits Ferghana region

The chairman of district electoral commission No 12 in Ferghana, R. Tojiyev, opened the meeting. The participants in the meeting were briefed on the candidate’s election manifesto. The manifesto stipulates such key issues like steadily continuing large-scale economic and socio-political reforms in the country, strengthening democracy, ensuring the supremacy of the law and social justice, supporting farming, small business and private entrepreneurship, further improving investment climate, reducing the tax burden, widely introducing hi-tech into production and further increasing the people’s well-being.

Islam Karimov made a speech at the meeting; he is also quoted as praising Ferghana.

Large-scale reforms being carried out in all spheres in our country are giving their weighty results. This is mostly being seen in the increase in the well-being and living standards of people, the improvement in the pension system, the steady increase in the amounts of pensions and social welfare as well as the population’s real incomes. The processes of modernizing and democratizing the country as well as liberalizing the economic and political spheres are consistently continuing.

They stressed that support for the candidacy of Islam Karimov was a reliable guarantee for the steady continuation of large-scale reforms being carried out in all spheres, bringing up the youth who are a decisive force in our future, and further improving the people’s living standards. They also called on the voters to take an active part in the presidential election in Uzbekistan scheduled for 23 December 2007.
