IMF and STC discuss issues of fighting corruption

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The State Tax Committee of Uzbekistan (STC) continues working meetings with representatives of the International Monetary Fund. The agenda of the final event is the anti-corruption measures in the tax field.

It was noted at the meeting that anti-corruption measures are put at the forefront in the STC, systematic work is being done to identify and suppress corrupt practices.

Specialists of the State Tax Committee develop a document on the selection and placement of personnel in order to prevent corruption in the tax authorities. It includes a number of changes that are made to the process of selecting candidates for various positions in tax authorities.

At the same time, a promising idea of conducting a survey among taxpayers in order to create a positive image, openness and publicity of tax authorities, as well as to identify corrupt practices was voiced. Taxpayers’ proposals for improving the activities of tax authorities will also be taken into account.

In addition, wide media coverage of the revealed facts of corruption actions by tax inspectorate employees and the adoption of appropriate measures are planned.

At the end of last year, Modestas Kaselyauskas, a permanent adviser from the IMF, studied the activities of the tax authorities of our country in the fight against corruption, they were given recommendations for improving work in this direction.

The main recommendations were the monitoring of corruption risks, their identification of risks, analysis and evaluation, as well as the development of measures to eliminate them. All recommendations will be taken into account and included in the Strategy for a Medium-Term Tax Administration Reform for 2019-2023.

The IMF experts underlined that it is not necessary to paint each item of anti-corruption measures, however, the general provisions need to be indicated in order to have a concrete idea of which direction to go, to see ways of achieving the goals set.
