Ilhom Khaydarov Assumes Office as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Türkiye

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 16 June, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Türkiye, Ilhom Khaydarov, arrived in Ankara. On the same day, he presented copies of his credentials to Ambassador Ahmet Cemil Miroğlu, Head of the Protocol Department of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting at the Turkish Foreign Ministry, both sides discussed prospects for further strengthening Uzbekistan–Türkiye relations within the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership. Particular emphasis was placed on multilateral cooperation, including coordination of positions at international platforms. In this context, the importance of Uzbekistan’s participation in the 51st Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, scheduled for June 21–22 in Istanbul, was noted.

Discussions also covered preparations for upcoming high-level visits and the expansion of political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries. Additional focus was placed on the development of trade and economic ties, intensification of business contacts, and broader cooperation in the humanitarian, cultural, and tourism spheres.

Ambassador Ahmet Cemil Miroğlu wished Ilhom Khaydarov success in his new post and expressed readiness to provide full support in establishing contacts, particularly with the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Türkiye (DEİK).

Ilhom Khaydarov, 56, previously served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

He is a graduate of Tashkent State University (now the National University of Uzbekistan), the Russian Foreign Trade Academy, and the International Cotton School in Memphis, USA. He has served as a trade and economic adviser and ambassador to Ukraine and for 15 years led the State Joint Stock Company “Uzbekengilsanoat” (now the Association of Textile and Garment Industry). From 2021 to 2024, he was Chairman of the Confederation of Employers of Uzbekistan.

Ambassador Khaydarov is fluent in English and French. He succeeds Alisher Agzamkhodjaev, who served as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Türkiye from 2017 to 2025 and, since 2018, concurrently to Bulgaria.

Agzamkhodjaev currently heads the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Ties, Foreign Investments, and Tourism.
