The ICT Summit, which is conducted for the 8th time in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan, is a meeting place for leading ICT experts and annually brings together approximately 400 delegates from Uzbekistan, countries of the near and far abroad, who employ the professional forum for discussing recent advances and developments in the field of information and communication technologies.
The current ICT Summit 2010 in no exception. This year the Summit is attended by more than 350 experts from Uzbekistan, Great Britain, France, India, Korea, Mongolia, Russia, USA, Turkey, Czech Republic, heading and representing public and international organizations, domestic and foreign IT companies, as well as industrial enterprises.
The ICT Summit is organized by the Coordination Council for Development of Computerization and ICT of the Cabinet of Ministers, Committee on Information and Communication Technology of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Communications And Information Agency Of Uzbekistan, United Nations Development Program in Uzbekistan represented by the project "Assisting the Government of Uzbekistan in the formulation and implementation of ICT for development policy» (ICTP), and Association of Uzbek IT enterprises and organizations.
The ICT Summit is a venue allowing specialists of governmental bodies and international organizations to analyze substantially the status of ICT market, get acquainted with novel achievements in this field, find new reliable partners, and attract additional investment resources for further introduction of ICT in Uzbekistan. Being a platform for discussing solutions and applications as well as new ideas and perspectives of the ICT development, the ICT Summit is somewhat of an "intellectual" element of the ICT Week, while a practical demonstration of the week is represented by the exhibition ICTExpo 2010 which follows the ICT Summit 2010.
The delegates consider the event as their annual professional gatherings and a chance to get together with colleagues to discuss the latest developments, exchange experiences and obtain first-hand information concerning advanced practices from the “mouth” of experts. Around 50 speakers will report on status of ICT market both in Uzbekistan and throughout the world, and acquaint the audience with new developments in this domain.
Activities of the Summit are divided into three thematic areas: Policies & strategies, Technologies & infrastructure, Applications & solutions. Experience of developing e-governance, organization of public procurement via the Internet, creation of virtual reading room, introduction of information technologies in the process of property registration, acquisition of entry visas to Uzbekistan, ensuring security of information systems are only some topics that will be covered during the event.
Furthermore, a number of international experts will share best practices of e-government implementation in such countries as Turkey, Czech Republic, Korea as well as present their reports on topics like: “Key e-Government applications in Turkey” ", “Creating an entirely paperless e-government: technical issues and current status in Korea”, “Projects on e-government implementation in the Czech Republic” and other.
Generally, participants of the ICT Summit are engaged in the ardent debates and discussions and subsequently generate recommendations and adopt the resolution of the Summit which serves as a somewhat of guide for subsequent short-term and long-term actions. This year is not an exception. Many of the recommendations of the Summit for previous years were implemented, whereas some of them are included in decisions of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of information and communication technologies. For instance, special importance has been given during the year to enhance the computer literacy of the population in ICT and over 15 thousand people have completed short-term courses, in which more than 400 students were involved, IT centers were opened as well as special trainings for people with disabilities were organized; in addition, a fourth generation communication network (4G), for the first time in CIS; the number of schools connected to the educational information network «ZiyoNET» was increased; being the first in Uzbekistan, One Stop Shop for providing public services in an interactive form has been launched; also it is necessary to note the active development of communication infrastructure of social facilities in rural areas.
Based on the results of the event, a CD with all papers and materials, which will be also available in electronic format on the website of the event at http://summit.ictp.uz, will be prepared.
