Technologies 22/09/2009 ICT Summit 2009 - Another step towards the formation of information society

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The National Summit on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) - ICT Summit 2009, the most striking event of ICT Week - InfoCom 2009, started at the International Business Center in Tashkent on 22 September 2009.

Every year, the ICT Summit, one of the most important events in ICT sphere in Uzbekistan, attracts more and more attention of national ICT specialists as well as international experts from around the world. Annually, nearly 400 delegates - leading experts of ICT market, representatives of governmental institutions, public and international organizations, managers and specialists of domestic and foreign IT companies - participate in the National Summit on ICT.

This year’s ICT Summit is not an exception: around 500 delegates from such countries as Germany, Belgium, India, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Russia, USA, Tajikistan and the Czech Republic are participating in the event. The organization of ICT Summit attracted attention of government agencies, business entities of Uzbekistan, and specialized organizations.

It is well known that a necessary element required for a wide-scale transformation towards information society is an active introduction of ICTs into operation of government agencies, which can substantially improve effectiveness of administrative work, ensure management transparency, increase interaction between government and citizens, government and businesses. This task is especially important as it contributes to strengthening the fundamentals of civil society and democracy. Successful implementation of this strategic task, however, requires reinforcement and consolidation of efforts of all government and non-government organizations.

National ICT Summit serves exactly for this purpose, creating an original platform for specialists, government agencies and international organizations to analyze the state of ICT market and familiarize themselves with the new achievements made in this field.

According to participants, ICT Summit has turned into an annual professional meeting and it gives colleagues a chance to discuss the recent developments, exchange practical knowledge and obtain information about latest experiences. More than 50 speakers will make presentations on current state of ICT market in Uzbekistan and around the world, and share new achievements in this sphere.

This year, the format of ICT Summit differs from the one of previous years. This year’s ICT Summit will be held as a one-day event. However, continuing a tradition, it opens the ICT Week with its work in the plenary and working sessions. It will end with the recommendations in a form of Resolution.

This year, the National ICT Summit celebrates its seventh anniversary and creates favorable conditions for demonstration of new tendencies, achievements and benefits of ICT implementation in different spheres, as well as discussion of prospects and familiarization with professional views on the issues of ICT development, expansion of partners’ range and joint determination of solutions of tasks emerging during extensive realization of ICT potential and rapid development of ICT as a sector itself.

The following are some of the issues and tasks to be discussed during the ICT Summit: directions of further improvement of legislation in the ICT field, trends in development of national telecommunication network of “Uzbektelecom” company, standards of information security in NGN, development prospects of National .UZ domain, state information policy and information and library institutions, information security in biometric passport system, challenges in automation of library operations, digital television broadcasting as means for providing wide scale public access to ICT, prospects of mobile network and broadband development. Some of the topics presented by international experts include: “E-government and eGON on the example of the Czech Republic, “Using e-governance to reach marginalized and remote populations and bring them public information and services” and other topics.
