During the conversation, the prospects for expanding bilateral relations in the telecommunications and information technologies in such areas as the organization of high-speed transit communication channels, increase in the volume of international telephone traffic between the networks of communication operators of the two countries, the organization of high-speed access to the international Internet network, training of personnel in the sphere ICT and other issues were discussed.
The parties stressed that expanding cooperation in the field of telecommunications and information technologies will strengthen both bilateral and regional cooperation.
Following the results of the talks, in order to improve friendly bilateral relations, expand cooperation and exchange experiences in the field of telecommunications, information technology and postal services, a Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation between the ministries of the two countries was signed.
The purpose of this Memorandum is, among other things, provision of technical assistance in the ICT field. The parties will strengthen the regulatory and legal framework of the industry, optimize the telecommunications system, information technology networks and postal infrastructure, in particular, postal transit through Uzbekistan to Central Asia will be ensured. The parties will also cooperate to improve competitiveness in various areas of the ICT industry, develop and promote the e-government system.
Azim Ahmedkhadjayev said that the sides agreed to develop cooperation in the ICT field. Within the framework of the Memorandum signed, the issue of training Afghan students in our universities - TUIT and INHA in Tashkent - is being considered, he said.
A "Memorandum of Understanding" between Uzbektelecom and Afghan Telecom Corporation was also signed. Given the important role of telecommunications in economic progress, the parties expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the field of mutual provision of telecommunications services.
“According to the Roadmap, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have identified a new stage of cooperation in the field of telecommunications and IT technologies. We will support each other, look for new ways of cooperation in order to expand access to the Internet in both countries,” Aghmal Ayan, Director General of Afghan Telecom Corporation, said.
In particular, the parties agreed to conduct an analysis of the needs of both countries in providing international communication services and the advisability of further development of a direct inter-operator connection between the telecommunications networks "Uzbektelecom" and "Afghan Telecom Corporation" for the transmission of telecommunication traffic.
