Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The agenda of the ongoing meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, taking place in Vienna from September 9 to 13, includes discussions on the Director General’s report on nuclear and radiation safety, strengthening the Agency’s activities in nuclear science, technology, and applications, and other key operational topics of the organization, Dunyo news agency reported.
During the session, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, Bakhtiyor Ibragimov, delivered a statement.
In his address, he highlighted the positive results achieved in recent years through close cooperation with the IAEA, including the successful implementation of projects aimed at enhancing nuclear safety, developing peaceful nuclear technologies, and strengthening human resources. Special emphasis was placed on the IAEA’s support for modernizing national infrastructure and training specialists, which contributes to the further development of the nuclear sector in Uzbekistan.
The Board of Governors, along with the annual General Conference, is one of the two main governing bodies of the IAEA. During its sessions, the Board reviews the annual reports of the Director General and recommends them for approval at the General Conference.
IAEA Board of Governors meetings are notable for addressing the most pressing issues related to the Agency’s operations. They involve not only the Board members but also nearly all of the IAEA member states.
