Huawei shares with the media the results of sustainable development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 June, the traditional press briefing of the company’s CEO in Uzbekistan with representatives of local media was held at the Huawei office to get acquainted with the company’s results for 2022. and the first half of 2023. The journalists were provided with information about the main projects implemented jointly with partners in the digital industry, as well as plans to further strengthen the ICT infrastructure in the country, introduce renewable energy sources and support the development of local ICT talents.

During the briefing, Huawei presented a brief description of the projects implemented with the participation of the company as part of the Digital Uzbekistan 2030 strategy, including the launch of 5G in Samarkand on the eve of the SCO summit and the successful experience in launching the Unified Data Storage and Processing Center, which laid the foundation for further development of e-government based on cloud technologies. Huawei cooperates with all local telecom operators on an ongoing basis, providing innovative solutions and exchanges of experience. Thus, in February of this year, a delegation of representatives of telecom operators and regulators, headed by the Minister of Digital Technologies, visited the stand of Huawei at one of the largest events in the field of mobile technologies MWC in Barcelona, and also visited the company’s headquarters in China. At the Uzbek-Chinese business forum in Xi’an in May this year, agreements were signed to further strengthen the ICT infrastructure and modernize networks in the country.

In order to support the plans of the Republic to increase the export of IT services, Huawei and IT Park are implementing projects to launch joint BPO centers in Namangan and Termez. The projects are developed on the basis of solutions for the creation of "smart" and "green" campuses. The BPO center in Termez has already created conditions for 30 jobs with an ecosystem of smart devices: computers, Huawei monitors, innovative Wi-Fi 6 access points, an Ideahub interactive whiteboard, and a 10 kW solar photovoltaic power plant has been placed on the roof of the building to provide the center with renewable energy.

Huawei, implementing its activities in Uzbekistan, follows the goals of sustainable development and on an annual basis focuses on supporting the education sector and cultivating ICT talents. The global educational project Seeds for the Future for the ninth year continues to unite students from various universities of Uzbekistan with IT areas to improve their digital knowledge. In 2022, 28 students from 7 universities of Uzbekistan took part in the project in a hybrid format from the company’s office in Tashkent, and this year students from 11 universities will have a chance to study at the regional level in Qatar and the UAE.

As part of the Green Uzbekistan initiative, Huawei continued cooperation on two eco-projects in Uzbekistan: the Green Aral Sea of the United Nations Development Program and the Bir Million Darakht of the Yuksalish National Movement. Since 2020, the Green Aral Sea project has provided support for the purchase and planting of 40,000 saxaul seedlings for landscaping the bottom of the Aral Sea, and in cooperation with Yuksalish, a joint Ecological Forum was held and trees were planted in the village of Karankul, Bostanlyk district, Tashkent International University of Education and donated seedlings for 15 schools in Tashkent.

Huawei intends to continue to contribute to the sustainable development of Uzbekistan by exercising social corporate responsibility to protect the environment, as well as implementing projects in the field of renewable energy development. Last year, cooperation was established with the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan to accelerate the transition to green digital energy. And in February of this year, a delegation of representatives of the Ministry of Energy, regional khokimiyats, subordinate organizations and industry enterprises visited the headquarters of Huawei in Shenzhen. As part of the Uzbek-Chinese business forum in Xi’an in May 2023. a memorandum was concluded with the Ministry defining further actions to expand the implementation of Huawei solutions in Uzbekistan. And in continuation of cooperation, in June 2023. Huawei signed a contract for the supply of inverters for the implementation of projects for the further development of renewable energy sources in the country.
