Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Within the framework of the “New Uzbekistan. A new look” in the republic starts a project to digitize historical objects, monuments and architectural structures in 3D. The project is being implemented by the National Association of Electronic Media of Uzbekistan, the Cinematography Agency of Uzbekistan and the American company Global Digital Heritage.

The unique technology will allow digital reconstruction of historical objects and access to objects in the VR format - augmented reality.

At the same time, the project has a high educational goal - everyone will be able to get acquainted with the monuments of Uzbekistan in an online format on a special resource. Also, representatives of Global Digital Heritage are ready to train specialists from Uzbekistan in modern technologies and work with drones, cameras and video filming of objects.

Today, in the building of the Agency of Cinematography, a meeting was held with specialists from Global Digital Heritage (USA) and the National Association of Electronic Media of Uzbekistan on the launch of the project. The pilot project will be implemented in Samarkand, and the first objects for digitization will be the Gur Emir tomb, the Bibi Khanum mosque, the ancient settlement of Afrosiab, the Ulugbek observatory, the Registan square and the Juma mausoleum.

“The trend of creating historical monuments in 3D has already spread all over the world, and now Uzbekistan will join it. This project will be interesting for everyone, but especially for young people who cannot imagine their life without new technologies, gadgets and virtual reality. In addition to the educational project, the project also carries a training function - trainings will be held for young people on the development of digital visualization, three-dimensional virtualization, geospatial informatics,” said Firdavs Abdukhalikov, head of NAESMI.

“The cultural heritage of each country, including Uzbekistan, is the property of the people. It belongs not only to a few people in a university or researchers in an organization, it belongs to everyone, and our mission is to bring cultural heritage back to people. What we do will help preserve this legacy and show descendants what our past was like. Using all our sources of information, we are reconstructing the object as it might look in reality,” commented the representative of Global Digital Heritage, Dr. Herbert Maschner.
