"Helga Paris. Photography" - the first exhibition in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 16 April to 16 May 2024, Goethe-Institut in collaboration with the IfA Institute of International Relations (Berlin, Germany) will organize a photo exhibition of Helga Paris in Uzbekistan. "Helga Paris. Photography" is the first photo exhibition of its kind in Uzbekistan.

The official opening ceremony of the exhibition will take place on 16 April in the exhibition hall of the Art Gallery of Uzbekistan.

Helga Paris was born into a working-class family in 1938. She was a famous art critic and photographer who spent much of her life in the former DDR. Helga Paris’ creative activity was devoted to photography of everyday scenes of the proletariat. Her work was not limited to the DDR and its territories, she also traveled to the former Soviet republics, Rome and New York, capturing moments from people’s lives. Helga Paris received multiple awards and was a member of the Academy of Arts.

Helga Paris is interested in everyday, sometimes completely banal moments of interaction and connection: looks, gestures, movements, surface structures and spaces that tell about the circumstances, histories and experiences of people and things, and how to deal with these circumstances.

The photo exhibition in Tashkent will be the first photo exhibition after the death of the photographer on 5 February 2024. The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Helga Paris and reflections on her life’s work. The photographs will be exhibited for a month, until mid-May.
