Heading towards localization: production of new-generation engines for Chevrolet Onix and Tracker cars mastered

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Last December, a new production line was launched at the UzAuto Motors Powertrain plant. This event can be called the most important for the entire automotive industry in Uzbekistan. The plant began producing a new family of CSS Prime engines.

These engines will be installed in new Chevrolet Onix and Chevrolet Tracker cars produced at the UzAuto Motors plant in Asaka.

To date, UzAuto Motors Powertrain is the only plant in the CIS that produces internal combustion engines, where the assembly and foundry shops are located on the same area. This is the only plant in Uzbekistan that uses a system for deep purification of industrial waste water by reverse osmosis.

The specialists of the enterprise, who have established and are working on the new line, have received special training from the manufacturers of the equipment used on the line, including: GROB, ADT, HOUSEN, FINE, HEXAGON. Also, trainings on GMS (GMS - General Motors global production system) were held for employees.

A distinctive characteristic of these engines is high manufacturability, low fuel consumption and the presence of a turbine.

The assembly of these engines is completely carried out on the territory of the UzAuto Motors Powertrain enterprise, which increases the overall percentage of localization of Onix and Tracker cars.

The engine range includes the naturally aspirated CSS Prime 1.2 LIF with 66 kW (89 hp) and the turbocharged CSS Prime 1.2 L4H with 97 kW (131 hp).

The production investment in the CSS Prime line is about US$190 million.

After the line is put into operation, the total production capacity of the plant will be about 400,000 internal combustion engines per year (including 190,000 CSS Prime engines).

Installation of the assembly line for CSS Prime engines began in January 2022. All processes, including equipment adjustment, were completed in less than a year.

The new line consists of modern equipment from leading manufacturers in France, Germany, China and Korea and is 55% robotic.
