Head of European Union delegation visits MFA
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Newly appointed head of the delegation of the European Union, Ambassador Norbert Jousten, has been received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan on 20 January 2012.

The head of the delegation handed over copy of credentials. During the meeting, it was noted that the sides pay special attention to strengthening of political dialogue. It was noted that the visit of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov to Brussels in January 2011 and talks with the head of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso lifted bilateral relations to new level.

Establishment of diplomatic mission of the European Union in Tashkent will allow to hold continuous political-diplomatic contacts and deepen multilateral and mutual beneficial relations.

It was said that trade-economic and investment cooperation play important role in relations of Uzbekistan with the EU states. Currently, the European Union is the second largest trade partner of Uzbekistan. Trade turnover between two sides made up US$1.6 billion in January-August 2011.

There are 841 joint ventures in Uzbekistan with capital of the European Union, including 218 enterprises with 100% capital of the EU states.

The sides expressed interest in investments and new advanced technologies for launch of capacities on competitive products. The sides exchanged opinion on other issues of mutual interest.
