This contribution was made in memory of Natasha Richardson, member of the Foundations Board of Directors. The funds will be directed to HIV/AIDS research, prevention, education, and advocacy programs worldwide.
More than US$4.5 million was raised in memory of Natasha Richardson. The 45 year-old actress died from hemorrhage of the brain on 18 March 2009 had also been charitable active person. She is known for her roles in Maid in Manhattan, Widows’ Peak, A Month In The Country, Blow dry etc. Natasha’s family donated her organs to waiting transplant patients, noting that a person dedicated so much to the AIDS struggle would do this way.
According to amfAR today there are 33 million people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide and 7.000 new infections every day. amfAR, as one of the largest non-profit organizations in the fight against AIDS, since 1985 has spent about US$300 million for research, vaccine development, and information and educational programs throughout the world.
In May 2009, the Fund Forum of Gulnara Karimova was the official donor of the annual charity amfAR Cinema against AIDS evening held within the Cannes Film Festival. Except the Fund Forum Gulnara Karimova, known in Uzbekistan and abroad as a diplomat, a philanthropist and patron of the arts, is a trustee of several major cultural and charitable organizations and projects.
