Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola commented on defender Abdulkodir Khusanov's debut following the 3-1 victory over Chelsea.
Khusanov, who started the match, faced a tough beginning to his Premier League career. In the second minute, he made an error that led to a goal by the opposition, and just two minutes later, he received a yellow card for a foul on Cole Palmer.
However, he later redeemed himself with a crucial block on a shot by Jadon Sancho and even attempted a shot on Chelsea's goal. In the 54th minute, he was substituted.
Commenting on the young player's performance, Guardiola emphasized the need for time to adapt: "It wasn't easy for him. He only had one training session before the match, and then he had to face players like Jackson, Cole, Madueke, and Sancho. When you sign such a young player, it's always a process. He will learn. Moments like these are the best lessons he can get."
The coach also highlighted the language barrier Khusanov is currently dealing with: "He doesn't speak English, so I haven't spoken to him. But it will be fine. He's had just one or two training sessions. I didn't want to rush John Stones back after his injury, especially considering our upcoming match against Brugge on Wednesday."
Guardiola stressed that the team is supporting the newcomer and that mistakes are a natural part of the adaptation process: "The players stood together, and that's incredibly important. Anyone can make a mistake. The fans always support new players. He's very young, and he will undoubtedly learn."
In conclusion, the coach added: "Now we're closer to Nottingham, but Bournemouth is showing impressive form right now."
