Group Detained in Uzbekistan for Smuggling Vehicles to Tajikistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The State Customs Committee has reported the detention of a group of eight individuals suspected of illegally exporting and selling passenger vehicles registered in Uzbekistan on the territory of Tajikistan.
According to the Committee, the suspects were transporting vehicles across the border for a fee ranging from US$100 to US$200. The transportation was carried out through the Andarkhon, Oybek, Pap, and Khovosobod border checkpoints.
In total, 59 vehicles of various makes were smuggled into Tajikistan, including BYD, Volkswagen, Kaiyi X3, Honda, Geometry, FAW ID4, and others. All of these vehicles were reportedly sold illegally within the neighboring country.
Similar incidents have been reported in the past. The Customs Committee once again urges citizens to exercise caution when handing over their vehicles under power of attorney.
“If you are facing difficulties retrieving a vehicle transferred under a power of attorney, or if you suspect that your vehicle has been taken out of Uzbekistan without your consent, immediately contact law enforcement authorities,”
the Committee emphasized.
