Graduation Ceremony held at WIUT
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 October 2012, Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) held its annual Graduation Ceremony. Celebrated since the formation of the university – this year WIUT celebrated its 10th anniversary – the Graduation Ceremony has become a tradition established by its British partner the University of Westminster (London).

The Graduation Ceremony is a part of the tradition of British higher education dating back to the 12th century when the first universities were established. Graduates dress up in academic clothes: a robe and headdress. It should be noted that every British university has its own characteristic garment.

This year marks WIUT’s issue of eighth bachelor graduates and fourth master’s graduates. During the Ceremony, graduates were presented to the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governor’s of the University of Westminster (London) Mr. Peter Kyle and WIUT Rector Abdumalik Djumanov and their academic colleagues from London and Tashkent.

Since opening, over 900 students graduated WIUT in the areas of Business and Management, Economics and Finance, Commercial Law and Information Technology. Approximately 90% of the graduates are now working in various sectors of the public, private and international organizations. Some of them continue their education at universities in Uzbekistan or at universities in other countries.

2012 Graduates’ opinion about the university is very positive. For example, Sabirova Holidakhon from Fergana, a graduate of the Faculty of Commercial Law, said the following: “In the year of entering to a university, I applied to 3 of the most prestigious universities in Uzbekistan, and one of my choices was WIUT. This was possible with the help of simple and flexible system of application process run at WIUT, as well as difference of exam dates compared to other universities of the country. It turned out that I entered to all the 3 universities. Without any second thought, I decided to choose WIUT because of the one most important reason – I was very much eager to be part of the international education provided by the university. For me it all meant a new knowledge, new life, new people, lot of opportunities and bright memories!”

Another graduate, Pavel Zaruchevsky from Faculty of Business Administration, told the following: "I was born in Turkmenistan. After school, when it came time to enter a university, I decided to prepare to an international university in Central Asia and learned that the best university of this kind in the region is WIUT. Thus, I chose WIUT because of the possibility to get British-style international education. Since the entire study is in English, I advise potential applicants to learn English well before entering WIUT – it will make studying at the university more successful; to current students I advise to set only the highest goals during their studies. If I were given another chance to relive my university years, I would spend each day with joy and appreciate every moment, because these were the best years of my life”.

In the year 2012, enrolment of students at WIUT for all the courses provided by the university increased by more than 35% compared to that of 2011. As its future strategy, the university is planning a large-scale expansion, provision of new courses and further development of its research output. Through combined efforts of designers, architects and the university administration, in 2013 it is planned to put into operation two new buildings – a new teaching building and a new sports complex.
