Economy 28/08/2009 GM Uzbekistan to produce Matiz Creative model - report
Matiz Creative
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- General Motor Co.’s plants in India and Uzbekistan will start production of GM Daewoo Auto & Technology’s new mini-car model from early next year and all auto parts will be supplied by the Korean plant, the Korea Economic Daily reported Thursday, citing an executive and a union leader from GM Daewoo.

“The union agreed with the company on the (plan) to produce the Matiz Creative model in India and Uzbekistan under the condition the cars made there are sold only in those countries,” the GM Daewoo union leader, Ryu Jo-hwan, was quoted as saying in the report.

GM Daewoo, the South Korean unit of GM, is also considering producing the model in other countries such as Vietnam and Colombia, according to the report.

GM Daewoo said last week the Matiz mini car - named Matiz Creative in Korea and Chevrolet outside Korea - will go on sale next month in South Korea.

As earlier reported, the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan issued a decree on 16 January 2009 on start of serial production of Chevrolet M300 in 2010 at GM Uzbekistan.

In line with the decree, the production of new model was planned for the third quarter of 2010. Chevrolet M300 will meet all security and comfort requirements.

GM Uzbekistan and General Motors Daewoo Auto and Technology (South Korea) signed an agreement on supply of machinery and equipment for organization of production of Chevrolet M300 on 26 September 2008.

Total cost of the project is around US$124.455 million. GM Uzbekistan will produce 50,000 cars annually and part of which will be exported.
