GM Uzbekistan starts production of Chevrolet Gentra
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- GM Uzbekistan, an Uzbek-US joint venture, started to assemble business class sedan Chevrolet Gentra, RIA Novosti reported quoting source in the venture.

The source said that the first party of Gentra was sent to Russia for testing and the production line will be used for large orders in December.

The source added that 90% of produced cars of new model will be exported to Russia and the CIS states.

As reported earlier, the front-wheel drive sedan Gentra, created on the platform of Lacetti, received a new four-cylinder DOHC engine with the capacity of 1.5 liters. The engine power is 105 horse powers. The sedan will be produced with manual or automatic transmission. The automobile uses 8.46 liters of fuel per 100 km in city with manual transmission and 9.46 liters with automatic transmission.

External changes have affected the front part of the model: hood, grille, bumper, headlights and anti-fog lights. The car meets the environmental standards of Euro 5.

Gentra is equipped with front seats heating, ABS, CD-player, distance controller with audio system. The car also has safety cushions, air conditioner, immobilizer and anti-fog lights.

The capacities of the venture on Gentra production in the first stage will make up 20,000 units a year. The project with the cost US$23.4 million was financed due to own resource of GM Uzbekistan.

Mezon.uz reported quoting deputy head of the department on localization of Uzavtosanoat Sarvarbek Mamadjanov that the enterprises of automobile industry of Uzbekistan will produce goods for US$3 billion.

The volume of production in the industry grows by 10% in average a year. In 2012, the industry produced goods for US$2.8 billion, Mamadjanov said.

Mamadjanov noted that it is forecasted that the production of cars will reach 245,000, of which 155,000 cars will be realized in internal market and 90% will be exported.

He said that the industry produced 236,200 automobiles in 2012, of which 127,600 were sold in internal market and 108,500 were exported.

Currently, GM Uzbekistan produced eight car models - Nexia, Lacetti, Malibu, Cobalt, Matiz, Spark, Captiva and Damas.

Mamadjanov said that it is expected that SamAuto will produce 2,800 vehicles, of which 1,000 are buses and 1,700 lorries in 2013.
