Uzbekistan was favourites in the tie and it started to prove their status from the first minutes. Despite having many chances, Uzbek players failed to convert them to goals.

Uzbekistan coach Mirdjalal Kasimov substituted Aziz Ibragimov to Alexander Geynrikh, which was decisive decision.

Bunyodkor midfielder Server Djeperov opened the score in 46th minute, while Geynrikh increased the lead in 57th and 65th minutes. However, two minutes later, Muhammad Zakuan scored the first goal of Malaysia in the qualifiers.
