Uzbekistan 04/06/2007 German envoy hails "rapidly developing" ties - report

Uzbekistan and Germany mark the 15th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations this year. A briefing has been held at the German embassy in Uzbekistan on this occasion.

Uzbek TV reported that the cooperation relations between Uzbekistan and Germany are expanding and developing year by year, including in such spheres as trade and the economy, science and education. At present, projects implemented between the two countries within the framework of a technical cooperation programme alone are worth over US$320 million.

Matthias Meyer, German Ambassador to Uzbekistan, said that relations in various spheres have been rapidly developing over the past 15 years since diplomatic relations were established.

He added the German government considers Uzbekistan to be a country, which is very important in ensuring stability and development in Central Asia. Both sides are equally interested in the development of mutual relations.

"Your country has all the conditions and a good investment climate for German businessmen, and businesses in general, to carry out activities and implement large joint projects. We are very glad about this," envoy said.
