Gazprom, Uzbekistan ink contracts for gas purchase
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan and Gazprom open joint stock company signed contracts on purchase of natural gas and agreement on transportation of gas through territory of the country in 2011-2012, the Russian company said in a press release.

The document was signed during working visit of the Gazprom delegation led by deputy chairperson of the Board Aleksander Medvedev to Uzbekistan.

Within the visit, Aleksander Medvedev held meeting with First Vice Premier Rustam Azimov, Vice Premier Gulomjon Ibragimov, chairman of the board of Uzbekneftegaz national holding company Shokir Fayzullaev.

After the negotiations, the sides agreed contracts on purchase of gas in 2011-2012 and agreement on transportation of natural gas through territory of Uzbekistan for the same period.

Besides, the sides agreed to increase efficiency of activity of joint ventures, including in financial sphere, the Russian company said.

The Agreement on Strategic Cooperation in the gas industry was entered into by NHC Uzbekneftegaz and Gazprom on 17 December 2002. In particular, the Agreement stipulates long-term purchase of Uzbek gas for the period between 2003 and 2012, Gazprom’s participation in natural gas production projects in the Republic of Uzbekistan under the Production Sharing Agreement terms, as well as cooperation in Uzbekistan’s gas transmission infrastructure development and Central Asian gas transmission across the Republic.

On 5 February 2005, Gazprom and Joint-Stock Company Uztransgaz (sub-holding of NHC Uzbekneftegaz) signed the Mid-Term Agreement on natural gas transmission across the Republic of Uzbekistan over 2006 to 2010. The Agreement pursues the objective of transporting Central Asian, primarily Turkmen, natural gas with the use of the Central Asia – Center (CAC) and Bukhara – Urals gas transmission systems running through the Republic of Uzbekistan.

On 1 January 2009, Gazprom coordinated the terms and conditions for natural gas supply from Uzbekistan for 2009 and signed the addendum to the Uzbek gas supply contract providing for a price formula based on the European average gas prices.

On 11 December 2009, the addendum to contract between Gazprom and Uztransgaz for transit of natural gas thorough Uzbekistan in 2010 and main terms of supply of the Uzbek gas in 2010 between Gazprom and Uzbekneftegaz were inked.
