Gastronomic Street in Mirabad District: Second Phase of Revamp Completed on Taras Shevchenko Street

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The second phase of the large-scale improvement project for the gastronomic street on Taras Shevchenko Street has been completed in Tashkent’s Mirabad district. According to the district administration's press service, the latest round of works covered a 226-meter stretch — from Said Baraka Street to Nukus Street.

This phase included major renovations to pedestrian walkways totaling 2,200 square meters, laying of 2,700 square meters of stone paving on the roadway, and an additional 650 square meters of asphalt surfacing. As part of greening efforts, 3,300 shrubs and 20 ornamental trees were planted, along with the creation of a 2,000-square-meter green area.

New urban amenities have been introduced along the stretch, including two fountains, three gazebos, six benches and six trash bins, and a modernized lighting system featuring 18 light poles (10 small and 8 large) and 18 street columns. To ensure safety, 28 surveillance cameras were installed.

The work officially began on 22 October 2024 and lasted around eight months. According to the district administration, the third phase of the project is now in the planning stage. It will cover a 400-meter section from Shahrisabz Street to Fidokor Street, with funding currently under review.

The first phase of the gastronomic street project was completed in October 2023, although the initial opening was scheduled for September. The timeline was delayed several times due to upgrades from asphalt to granite paving and setbacks in landscaping, resulting in a total of four postponements.

During the first phase, the street was equipped with six photo zones, Wi-Fi access, a bus stop, and modern lighting — including 39 small and 17 large decorative lamps. Additionally, 20 benches and trash bins were installed, along with 39 surveillance cameras and a facial recognition system.

With each stage, Taras Shevchenko Street is gradually transforming into a contemporary urban space that combines leisure, gastronomy, security, and aesthetic appeal.
