The statement said that the Government of Uzbekistan requested to close the French Institute in Uzbekistan from 30 June 2014.

The Embassy of France will continue to organize cultural and language events after the date and till adoption of possible alternative decisions.

French Institute in Uzbekistan was opened in spring 2011 on the vase of French Cultural Center named after Victor Hugo (which was opened in January 2002).

The institute focused on holding training on French language, organizing cultural events and disseminating educational and stipend programmes in France.
