Last week, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development of France Laurent Fabius signed an intergovernmental agreement on establishing and conditions of the activities of French Alliance in Tashkent.
The Embassy said that the first French Alliance was founded in Paris in 1883 on initiative of such prominent people as Louis Pasteur and Jules Verne. On such model, people, who support promotion of French language and culture, are opening Alliances in other countries.
All French Alliances have status of local NGOs (French Institute belong to the Embassies of France).Today, it is the leading cultural network worldwide, with 850 establishments in 137 countries on all five continents, the Embassy said.
Having corresponding legal status, French Alliance in Tashkent, which will open its doors next year, will carry out similar functions as French Institute in Uzbekistan and locate in the building of the French Institute. In particular, French Alliance will conduct French language courses for all age groups, representative of the Embassy noted.
French Alliance Tashkent, created in line with the intergovernmental agreements, signed on 7 November 2014, will become important tool to development of Uzbek-French cooperation in culture and French language spheres, the French Embassy added.
