The auction was held in London on 5 March 2014 and was held within the exhibition-sales “1000 Ways of Seeing: The Private Collection of the late Stanley J. Seeger”.
Two suzanes from Shakhrisabz, one suzane from Bukhara and one suzane Lakhai were traded at the auction. All of them were produced in the 19th century.
The suzane Lakhai was sold for 27,500 pounds at the estimate of 2,000-4,000 pounds. Two suzanes from Shakhrisabz were realized for 8,125 pounds (estimate – 1,000-1,500 pounds) and 3,250 pounds (estimate – 800-1,200 pounds).
The suzane from Bukhara was sold for 5,000 pounds, while the estimate was 1,000-1,00 pounds.
Suzane is a wall carpet, which is made on silk, velvet or cotton fabric. Its length is 2 meters and height – 2-3 meters.
