Four countries seek registration of Navruz as international day
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Four countries are trying to register Navruz, the first day of the ancient celebration of the New Year, beginning on the first day of spring, as an international day at the United Nations, IRNA reported.

The draft resolution, prepared by Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan, was signed by the countries’ envoys to the UN on Monday, the report said.

The four countries are presently trying to attract the interest of other countries in supporting the resolution, which is soon to be handed over to the General Assembly.

Comprised of 17 preliminary clauses and six administrative clauses, the resolution regards Navruz as a manifestation of cultural unity, which is annually celebrated by over 300 million people living in the Middle East, Central Asia, Caucasus, Balkan and various other regions.

Navruz was registered on UNESCO’s List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity as a common file from Iran, Azerbaijan, India, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Turkey during a meeting held in Abu Dhabi from September 28 to October 2.
