Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  From 2 to 6 December 2024, the Forum on Territorial Development of Uzbekistan, held in collaboration with the World Bank, focused on the theme: “Creating Green and Climate-Resilient Regions and Cities in Uzbekistan.”

On December 4, First Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Ilkhom Norkulov met with several experts from international organizations participating in the forum.

During the meeting, it was noted that the forum’s sessions featured lively discussions on topics such as accelerating urbanization processes, stimulating the work of local authorities, increasing budget transparency, and involving citizens in the effective use of funds. Experts highlighted that the forum has become an important platform for exchanging views.

Additionally, a number of proposals were made to address urban planning challenges and support the transition to eco-friendly and climate-resilient cities.

The forum is organized with the financial support of the World Bank’s Urban Development and Climate Change Program for Europe and Central Asia, the Ministry of Finance of Austria, the European Union, and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

The forum serves as a platform for discussing solutions to support sustainable urbanization and the development of environmentally clean, climate-resilient regions and cities in Uzbekistan.

The event also promotes cooperation between local and international experts, which will help support the government’s efforts in ecological territorial development and urban planning.

Participants of the forum will visit the cities of Yangiyul and Samarkand to study local authorities’ practices in managing urban economies, planning and financing their development, and responding to environmental issues and the impacts of climate change.
