Foreign languages to be taught in Uzbekistan from first class
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution “On measures on further improving system of studying foreign language” on 10 December 2012.

The document was adopted to improve teaching foreign languages, training specialists with good language skills, introducing advanced technologies into education system, etc.

According to resolution, foreign languages, predominantly English language, will be taught in all schools of Uzbekistan from first classes as game plays. From the second class, the alphabet, reading and grammar will be taught.

From 2013/2014 academic year, special topics, especially technical and international specialties, at higher educational establishments will be conducted in foreign languages.

The document said that Republican Targeted Book Fund under Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan will provide students and teachers of general, secondary special and professional educational institutions with manuals and methodical complex for free of charge.

Uzbek President also approved a programme on measures one expanding studying foreign language at all levels of education system in Uzbekistan. President entrusted to adopt new educational standards till 1 March 2013, which envisage concrete criteria on foreign language level at each education level.

Islam Karimov entrusted State Center on testing in cooperation with interested sides to submit proposal to the Cabinet of Ministers on introduction of foreign language to university entrance exams from 2015/2016 academic year.

Uzbek President also provided additional payment to foreign language teachers at the size of 15%-30%. Islam Karimov also entrusted ministries and departments to develop a programme on equipment of foreign language classes of educational establishments for 2013-2016 with modern ICT and technical equipment.

The programme will be financed due to State Budget and off-budget funds, foreign loans and grants, as well as resources of sponsors.
