Foreign countries give more preference to Uzbek textiles

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan has increased its export volumes to foreign countries. According to statistics, consumers give preference to Uzbek fabrics and finished products, which indicates significant work done in improving the quality of finished products, popularizing the Made in Uzbekistan brand and a favorable business environment.

2023 has become one of the difficult years for manufacturers of textile products: on the one hand, the consequences of the pandemic on the economies of many countries, in particular China, a decrease in demand for cotton and textile products on the one hand, and a growing interest in Uzbek textile products and high requirements for product quality with another, influenced the consideration of companies’ business policies.

If previously, a popular business was the creation of a spinning enterprise or the production of finished products for the masses, then with the popularization of fast fashion and requirements for sustainability and traceability, the number of vertically integrated enterprises is increasingly growing. The creation of additional incentives for expanding dyeing and clothing production, by switching to a system of cotton-textile clusters, made it possible to significantly increase the number of holdings covering the entire textile production cycle.

Today, we can say with confidence that the Government has created the most favorable conditions for increasing textile production and its export, both internal and external. According to the Statistics Agency, over the 11 months of 2023, the volume of exports of textile products increased significantly compared to the previous year, exceeding the share of finished products. Thus, at the moment, yarn exports have recorded an increase of 108%, which corresponds to an increase in volume of 30.6 thousand tons compared to 2022. A significant increase was registered in the fabric category, where growth was 85%, resulting in an increase in exports of 238 million square meters. Finished products – by more than 22%.

With the start of activities in the country of such organizations as Better Work and Better Cotton, Uzbek textiles entered the supply chain of more than 27 global brands. The extension of GSP+ preferences provided an opportunity to increase export volumes, in particular, to Germany, Italy, and Poland.

Another breakthrough in textile exports has been e-commerce. Digitalization of the industry and popularization of marketplaces makes it possible to increase exports by an additional US$1 billion. in 2024.

Already today, through the Wildberries platform, Uzbekistan was able to increase its export volume by an additional US$336 million.
